In 1945, after serving in the Army Air Corps, Earl Harper returned to his Texas roots. He began as a delivery truck driver before discovering his passion as an electrician with Ling-Temco-Vought (now L3 Harris). In 1972, Earl took a leap and started his own business in the fueling equipment industry. With his wife Dottie by his side, handling bookkeeping and dispatching, Earl began repairing Southwest Pump gasoline dispensers for Gulf Oil stations throughout Dallas and Collin Counties. His dedication, craftsmanship, and technical expertise quickly earned him a solid reputation across the DFW Metroplex.

By 1985, Earl’s business had grown beyond what he could manage alone. His son, Paul Harper, joined the company after college and a stint with General Telephone (GTE). Paul's expertise in electronics came at a pivotal time, as Pay At The Pump technology was revolutionizing the industry. In 1986, Harper was recognized as an Authorized Service Organization (ASO) for Wayne Pumps, and the business opened its first physical location on Buckingham Road in Garland. Two years later, the company also became a Gilbarco Veeder-Root Authorized Service Contractor (ASC), further expanding its reach.

In 1991, Earl and Dottie retired, passing the torch to Paul as owner and company president. Paul’s vision brought further growth, including the addition of a heavy construction crew in 1997 to install petroleum storage tanks and pumps. In 2000, Harper introduced a compliance testing team to help customers meet environmental regulations. The business moved twice more—first to Grisham Drive in Rowlett in 1998 and then to its current home on Singleton Street in 2002—allowing it to continue expanding its services and partnerships, including adding Verifone to its service portfolio.

In 2023, Paul transitioned to the role of strategic advisor, continuing to guide the company he helped grow. Today, Harper remains a privately owned and operated company, well-respected for its quality craftsmanship, deep expertise in the fueling industry, and unwavering work ethic.
